songs for trees and people
„Songs for Trees & People“ ist ein Musikprojekt mit sichtbar gemachtem Recherche-Anteil. Ich führe Gespräche mit Künstler:innen und Expert:innen aus Asien, Afrika und den USA und macht ihre Beziehung zu bestimmten Bäumen hör- und sichtbar. Die Resultate der Arbeit werden in Konzerten und Ausstellungen in Bern, Köniz, Zürich und London präsentiert sowie auch in Videoform aufbereitet.

Mihayo Kallaye ist ein Mixed Media-Künstler aus Daressalam in Tansania. Seine Arbeit umfasst ein breites Spektrum an Medien, darunter Video, Ton, Stoff, Tätowierung und gefundene Objekte. Er beschäftigt sich mit afrikanischer Geschichte, Spiritualität und Politik. Kallayes Kunstwerke wurden an namhaften Orten ausgestellt, darunter der East Africa Biennale (2019), im Nationalmuseum von Tansania (2020), in der Circle Art Gallery in Kenia (2021), in der Galerie Atelier III in Barmstedt, Deutschland (2022) und im Africa Centre in London. Wir haben über Mangroven an der Küste vor Daressalam gesprochen.
Mark Chisholm, New Jersey (USA)
Mark Chisholm ist zertifizierter Baumpfleger in dritter Generation und Meister im Baumklettern aus New Jersey (USA). Er gewann dreimal die ISA International Tree Climbing Championship und hält einen Weltrekord im Baumklettern. Er schätzt Bäume und trägt ihnen Sorge – zu seinen liebsten gehören Giant Redwoods oder "Sequoia".
Die Fotografin und Videokünstlerin hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, die Biodiversität auf den Philippinen einem breiteren Publikum zugänglich zu machen. Dafür reist sie zum Beispiel zu indigenen Communities, erfasst die Funktion von Flora und Fauna vor Ort und stellt dieses nie erforschte Wissen online zur Verfügung. Ihr Lieblingsbaum ist der "Dao"-Baum, der bekannt ist für sein dichtes oberirdisches Wurzelwerk, das von präkolonialen indigenen Communities als Zufluchtsort genutzt wurde.
“Songs for Trees & People” is a music project with research elements. To learn more about trees from other parts of the world, I hold conversations with artists and experts from Asia, Africa and the USA and try make their relationship to certain trees audible and visible. The results of the work will be presented in concerts and exhibitions in Bern, Köniz, Zurich and London, as well as online.

Mihayo Kallaye is a mixed media artist from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. His work spans a wide range of media including video, sound, fabric, tattoo and found objects. He deals with African history, spirituality and politics. Kallaye's artworks have been exhibited at notable venues including the East Africa Biennale (2019), the National Museum of Tanzania (2020), the Circle Art Gallery in Kenya (2021), the Atelier III gallery in Barmstedt, Germany (2022), and the Africa Center in London.
Mark Chisholm, New Jersey (USA)
Mark Chisholm is a third-generation certified arborist and a tree-climbing champion from New Jersey (USA). He climbed his first tree with a rope and harness at age 12, and has not stopped since – he won the ISA International Tree Climbing Championship three times and holds a world record in tree-climbing (50-foot secured footlock climbing).
Celine Murillo is a multimedia artist whose mission it is to promote and mainstream biodiversity in the Philippines. She has been living and travelling in a van with her husband, talking and co-creating with indigenous communities, mapping flora and fauna and documenting it for social media. Her favorite tree is the "Dao" tree, known for its dense above-ground root system that was used as a refuge by pre-colonial indigenous communities.
